Hi friends,
I received an artificial toe joint a few years back. I am now dealing with major foot pain that has been going on for three weeks. X rays were taken and it shows no sign of a fracture or anything. The foot is swollen and hurts all the time it feels like it has pressure and it is going to explode.
Any ideas? |

Hi
Do you know what type of artificial joint replacement you have? Silastic, reflection or ceramic?
The 1st toe joint replacement is still in an experimental stage, so we are unsure how long they last.
It may be that the implant has moved, or if its a ceramic type your bone may not be gripping the implant properly so micro movement occurs causing pain.
My advice would be to go back to the surgeon who fitted it, it may need removing.

Hi
I believe that titanium implants rely on your bone gripping the implant. So the implant could be moving ever so slightly (micro movement), which could cause inflammation and pain, this would not show on an x-ray.
I think you need a surgical opinion, as it may need replacing or removing.
Check out my web site if you ever come to England and need a surgeon.
I hope this helps.

Hi, I went in and saw a surgeon and what happened is that the bones around the artificial joint had spurs growing and the joint shifted position now I am having a surgery to fuse the joint.
Thanks and have a great week. |
