I have problems with bunions and I have some questions about orthotics:
Are generic orthotics ok for pronation control? Can you recommend something?
Do I need pronation control as well for shoes if I wear orthotics?
Does wearing extra socks affect the function of orthotics?
Thanks |

Hi
There is no evidence to show that orthotics will help bunions. If they are very painful surgery is really the only answer, steroid injections may help but they are really just delaying surgery.
Generic orthotics can help, but tend not to control the foot as well as a casted device or an off the shelf device from a podiatrist.
No you do not need pronation control for shoes, except if you run. You can get anti-pronatory trainers/sneakers from a running shop. But if you have orthotics and want to wear them in your trainers you should ask for a neutral shell trainer/sneaker.
No wearing extra socks doesn't alter the function of an orthotic it wll just take up extra room in your shoe.
Hope this information helps.
